FORMA: A Journal of Latin American Criticism and Theory

For Authors

Submit Manuscript

Overview

FORMA invites submissions of manuscripts in English that attempt to reorient our understanding of major concepts and problems related to the study of Latin American and Latino/a literature, art, and theory. Potential contributions may focus on concepts and/or on specific works of fiction, film, visual art, and political economy; however, all manuscripts should have clear stakes for theory and practice in the field.

Manuscripts should consist entirely of original material that has not been published elsewhere. On occasion, FORMA will consider translations of essays not previously published in English that advance the journal’s goals. Translators will be responsible for securing translation rights.

Authors should include with their submission an abstract of 200 words and a list of up to five keywords.

Articles appearing in FORMA undergo blind peer-review by two readers. Authors can expect to receive a decision within three months from the date of submission. Manuscripts submitted to FORMA should not be under consideration elsewhere.

Please note that authors will be responsible for securing all necessary permissions. FORMA does not pay authors, subsidize permission fees, or reimburse expenses incurred by authors.

Queries and other correspondence related to submissions should be directed to the Managing Editorial Team:

Formatting Guidelines

Manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with The Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition.

All citations in the main text should be translated into English with the original quote provided in the footnote.

In preparing notes, please do not use op. cit., ibid, or idem.

For texts that are cited once or twice beyond the initial citation, use the format for “Shortened Notes” in The Chicago Manual of Style for the subsequent citation(s) as follows:

  1. Michael Fried, “Art and Objecthood,” Artforum 5, no. 10 (June 1967): 12.
  1. Fried, “Art and Objecthood,” 13.
  2. Fried, “Art and Objecthood,” 14.

For texts that are cited more than twice beyond the original citation, use parenthetical citations in the text for all subsequent citations and add a sentence after the original note as follows:

  1. Michael Fried, “Art and Objecthood,” Artforum 5, no. 10 (June 1967): 12. Subsequent references are cited in parentheses in the text.
